It’s a good movie. I was expecting the typical multiple personality disorder scenario as the plot twist of who the murderer was. The movie did surprise me with this whole concept of the killer being a parasitic twin living on the backside of the main character with supernatural powers. I felt like when writing the script for the movie they were first going for the typical multiple personality disorder TV trope, but then they came up with this idea of a serial killer parasitic twin in the middle of the development of the story and thus decided to change the story.
Which left some very silly plot holes like for example, in the scene where the detective chases the serial killer for the first time why he couldn’t see Madison (Annabelle Wallis)’s face on the backside and there is the hair covering her face? It’s only later on in the movie after the revelation of the killer being a twin-parasite living on Madison’s backside that the movie shows Madison’s face fully without hair covering when the killer is in control of her body.
Also, what happened to her invisibility powers that we only see in the first 15 minutes, when the parasitic twin kills her husband? I know he is messing with her head, but when he turns invisible for Madison’s husband as well and he can’t see her parasitic twin coming for him it means it’s real.
I give some prop-ups for the original concept; however, I felt like it was too silly and unrealistic. I wouldn’t call this movie a horror one, because the concept was so silly that I couldn’t take it seriously at all. It felt more like the typical suspense detective/crime story until they went full bananas at the end and implemented this crazy parasitic twin with super strength, ninja moves, and electrical powers.
I laughed the whole time during the scene when the parasitic twin starts killing the whole police department holding only a sword, and the cops somehow missed all their shots lol. Come on guys you can do better! It felt as if I was watching a silly superhero movie made for children and teenagers. Or one of those Rambo-Esque 80s action movies where a one-man army guy can kill everyone lol.
Anyways, it’s not a bad movie by any means. It’s just one of those movies you got to watch knowing that in order to delve into the universe of the movie you got to completely ignore any real-world rationality and plausibility, just like superhero movies, otherwise, you will keep scratching your head.
