Review

Rings

There are spoilers here, but they are general and won’t ruin the movie at all. Okay so Rings was good! If you think otherwise, you have to be a fan of the first two films most likely. This is why… They are all slow paced yet built up to a climax. They’re all about investigation with horror scenes in between. They’re very good in fact. There’s so much hate for the newest one, yet people aren’t getting the gist. The third one ties into more of Samara’s mothers’ past. I like the way they connected it.

You would’ve never expected. It also gives you more of an emotional feel for Samara and her mother. It gives you more of the story and more of Samara’s origins. People are also freaking out because seeings how she comes out of TV’s, she came out of a radar on a plane. I know it might sound corny but technically she’s an evil spirit and she can come out of anything and there were no normal TVs on the plane.

Therefore, it’s not that stupid. This movie also shows a more paranormal side to her which is cool because she’s gotten stronger over time which makes sense. People are also saying how these movies are stupid because someone would’ve uploaded the video to YouTube by now. Technically we know nothing about that but, if you have an open mind, why would a character upload it to YouTube seeing’s how everyone who watched it is at risk of dying?

Realistically if this wasn’t a movie, it would be uploaded to YouTube and people would’ve viewed it, but I’m sure that person hopefully would take it down because even though someone would view it and the uploader wouldn’t die, you’d think someone would have the consideration of not putting millions of lives in danger by viewing it. Then again, you never know because people can be cold but anyways who cares about the YouTube aspect. Furthermore, this movie is also good because the main characters are trying to look into her story like the other films.

They know the original details but there’s more they discover about Samara’s hometown. You also find out who her father is. Like I said the way it’s tied in is actually good. People are also saying how there wasn’t much character development of the characters themselves, I mean I get it, people want to see how the character is as a person so fans can grow a liking, but realistically we don’t need to know that at all because there’s enough in the film that people don’t realize.

Just by watching the film we see that the two main characters, a girl named Julia and her boyfriend Holt are nice people, they care about others, and they are trying to stop the evil once and for all. We wouldn’t need to know more about them because it wouldn’t really be needed in the script due to the story itself. If that’s not enough character development for you, then that’s your problem so open your mind. I like how modern the film was.

There was a secret team of people ran by a teacher at college having people watch the tape on a computer after he watched it himself. After he watched it, he discovered that he had 7 days, so he got someone to watch it and he made a whole team out of what was happening. The team had a goal. I won’t tell you what their goal was though. Holt was one of the kids on watch of the 7-day countdown. There were others on watch as well.

Julia ended up watching the tape too obviously to save her boyfriend Holt and to see what the tape was for herself. I think putting that into the story is rather cool and modern actually. Plus, Samara makes her own copy for Julia to reach out to her so Julia can figure out how to set Samara’s spirit free. By Samara making her own copy for Julia, she adds in scenes to the future of what’s going to happen due to the Julia’s actions and to show Julia where she needs to go.

The way this movie is portrayed makes it seem like this is what Samara’s tape has come to after all of these years. Like I said, you’ll possibly like this film if you’re a fan of the others. It’s still good if you’re not a fan of the other films but it would make more sense if you were. People are also complaining because they said it was not scary or there weren’t many scary scenes. Okay older people such as late teens, young adults, and adults, usually don’t get scared of movies anymore.

By saying a movie sucked because it wasn’t scary enough is just ignorant. There’s more to a movie plot than just scares. There’s a story. I have to admit; there are not a lot of horror scenes in it but there are some. That’s how it was with the first film though. Like I said, all of these films are slow paced and build up to a climax and if you’re a fan then you’ll possibly appreciate the slow build up.

Again, before you say it sucks, if you’re a true fan of these movies then you’ll know they’re slow paced because of the investigation of the story itself, they have little horror scenes here and there, and they build up to a climax. Rings were more than meets the eye. My movie ticket was definitely not wasted.

Not as bad as people would think. Too much hate on reviews on IMDB.
