Ready or Not 2: Here I Come

Decent yet very flawed sequel to the original finds Grace (Samara Weaving) once again fighting to survive another 24 hours against Devil Worshippers who want to control the world but this time with the help of her sister who has to play the game as well. First and foremost, the only reason this movie works as well as it does despite its glaring problems is because of the great performance of Samara Weaving, who’s literally carrying this film on her shoulders with sheer raw acting talent, charisma and iron will.

While Samara once again goes above and beyond to make the audience root and care for her character, the movie itself unfortunately does not even come close in matching her intense, witty and powerful performance. The film is pretty much glorified remake of the original with a weaker script, cartoonist bad guys, more gore and unnecessary characters. One being Grace’s long lost kid sister played by Kathryn Newton, who’s more a plot device than a real character.

In fact, the movie would have worked better without her character and just focused solely on Grace again like the original did but unfortunately, we are saddled with poorly written sibling drama and Newton’s Character being absolutely annoying. The Brother and Sister villains played by Sara Michelle Geller and Shawn Hatosy are more boring, bland and cartoonish than sinister, which reflex’s on most of the bad guys in this sequel with the exception of Elijah Wood, who has the cool, sinister edge of the villains of the original movie but unfortunately, he’s not part of the action much.

While the movie has its very deep problems, there is no denying the fact that it’s still fun in its own right and Samara Weaving still delivers an amazing performance as Grace. So, the movie is still a decent and worthy follow up to the original thanks to those factors. While this movie was moderately successful enough in the box office to warrant a “Ready or Not 3”, I think it’s high time Samara Weaving and the audience walk away from this franchise, especially when this movie really did not deserve Weaving’s great performance or our time.

I enjoyed the first one. This one is good except for too much comedy does not make it better.
