Okay, well my intial impression here, when I stumbled upon this 2020 movie “Children of the Corn” was ‘great, another pointless reboot’. Yet, I still opted to watch the movie, as I hadn’t already seen it. Actually, I didn’t even know that this 2020 version existed prior to stumbling upon it by random chance.
And as I had anticipated, then writer and director Kurt Wimmer delivers a somewhat unnecessary remake or reboot, call it what you will, of a short story by Stephen King, something that has been done before already. And that just makes this 2020 version redundant and fully unnecessary.
Sure, if you are blissfully unaware of the older movies in this franchise, then I assume that you might get some kind of enjoyment from watching writer and director Kurt Wimmer’s 2020 movie. However, if you are familiar with aforementioned franchise, then you really don’t need to sit down and waste 93 minutes on watching this.
While I managed to endure the 93 minutes of “Children of the Corn”, I have to say that I was only slightly entertained by the movie. It actually helps if you forget all about the previous 11 movies in the franchise, should you opt to sit down and watch this 2020 addition to the franchise.
The acting performances in “Children of the Corn” were actually fair enough. The only performer on the cast list that I was familiar with was Callan Mulvey.
Visually then I will say that “Children of the Corn” was adequate. The special effects and CGI were good, nothing outstanding, but good.
And then there was the creature known as He Who Walks. Right, a creature made from corn stalks is capable of emitting growling sounds and wailing? Sure, but is Kurt Wimmer not familiar with the term vocal cords?
“Children of the Corn” was a movie that came and went without leaving a lasting impression. And it is not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time, nor is it a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on.
My rating of “Children of the Corn” lands on a three out of ten stars.
